Good Old James
Leo & Gertjan Wijnalda, november 1995

about this song
i'd like to say this is my first own song, but rather it's the first song i contributed to. it's about the fictive story of a character called James who, well, likes to swim in the Thames, but of course the old Londoners don't agree with this and give him a very rough time... (inspired by the statue of James Cook on the Mall, Trafalgar Sq.-side)

Good Old James
(L. Wijnalda / G.L. Wijnalda)

Well, let me tell you 'bout a story
About a man of great glory
He wasn't young, he wasn't old
But lived for ages as been told
He came out nowhere to this land
And one they sudden, here he stands

He didn't speak, he didn't say
But only swam out every day
T his good old James
He was swimming in the Thames
And everyday around the clock of ten
From Tower Bridge to the Big Ben

The cops they grabbed'im on the wall
And lead'im public to the Mall
They wanted to let him tell his story
To end his quite enormous glory
But day by day at night, at ten
He jumped into the Thames again

Yeah, good old James
He was swimming in the Thames
And good old James
He was swimming in the Thames
And every day around the clock of ten
He jumped into the Thames again

The thing kept rollin' all around
They came all over to this place
It was the story of the year
It happened all just overhere
The crowd stood already there at ten
When James jumped in the Thames again

Chorus

One night he sudden didn't show
'Till now 'bout no-one really knows
One didn't saw him anymore
It turned just like it was before
And every day around at ten
There was no James ever there again

Chorus
