Maggie Blake's Cause
Leo & Gertjan Wijnalda, july 1997

about this song
a few years ago, my dad and i went to london. that is where we came across this little alley next to the tower bridge, called maggie blake's cause. we had a nice time figuring out who maggie blake might have been, and in the end we decided we'd write a song about her.

i've played the song live several times, but the first time is the one that's in my memory still. featured on this recording are martijn stam (guitar), michiel rohlof (bass guitar) and job volwater (drums), along with myself on piano and vocals.

Maggie Blake's Cause
(L. Wijnalda / G.L. Wijnalda)

Maggie Blake was a girl downtown
With no religious mind, just livin' underground
I've met her on a sunny summernight
And we kept talkin' 'till the twilight

And she said "What are you waiting for
Come with me next door
And I'll make love to you, the way you've never felt before"
She didn't gave the feeling that I bought her body
That night we reached the skies

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Maggie
Maggie, I'll come to your Maggie Blake's Cause

Well, she sure gave me everything
That's why I have got this song to sing
Right after I wanted to walk away
"Hey! Don't forget my money", was everything she'd say

I didn't know she was a hooker, but I don't care
'Cause experiences like this are always way too rare
And she didn't gave the feeling that I bought her body
That night we reached the skies

Chorus

Maggie Blake was a girl downtown
With no religious mind, just living underground
She only needed money, so she could buy
Her heroin and cocaine and slowly gonna die

Chorus
