When The Fire Comes
Gertjan Wijnalda, june 2003

about this song
when the fire comes in a relationship it is time to run away or to start fighting for it - a common theme in my songs (e.g. a lipstick under a pillow). when you choose not to, it all ends in a blaze. the end of this song is an instrumental build up with a minute long guitar solo, which symbolizes the fire in the heart of people that might lead to an outburst and a radical change in everybody's life.

When The Fire Comes
(G.L. Wijnalda)

There's a place I used to live
A couple of days a week
She said now I cannot visit anymore
There's some guys I used to see
A couple of nights a month
She says now I cannot speak them anymore

Now everything is broken
Everything is smoking
When the fire comes

There's the rage inside of everyone
That comes climbing up the walls
That we built ourselves
Secure for everybody
There's the fire inside our hearts
That we've always tried to tame
Yet we never found a way to get it settled down

Now everything is broken
Everything is smoking
When the fire comes
Everything is broken
All is left unspoken
When the fire comes

You know there's no way we can excuse
All the things we've said and done
When the fire came
You know there's lessons to be learned
Of things that vanished while they're written in the sand by the sea
Oh, and everything you say can and will be used against you
In the court of love
And there's the ashes of our lifes together
The ruins that I'm bleeding on
After the fire burned away your heart

I used to look in mirrors
Until a little while ago
When I didn't know at all what I'd been looking for
And I've never realised the amount of reality in life
Oh, I only got a glimpse of how it could've been

Now everything is broken
Everything is smoking
When the fire comes
Everything is broken
All is left unspoken
When the fire comes

Chorus
